My real name is Gilbert Roberts, of Wanganui, New Zealand. But everyone calls me Cob, a nickname I picked up from my workmates.
I've been involved with Morris Minors since the early 1980’s when I brought a Morris Minor Traveller, which I used as a shuttle vehicle for the local Venturer Scout Unit. Unfortunately someone broke into the car through the side window and damaged the wooden rails etc. Not knowing how valuable the vehicle would end up being in the future, I cut the Woodie down to a Ute . . . . . if only I knew then what I know now!
As life went on I still had a liking for Morris Minors so I joined the local Canterbury Morris Minor Club Inc (I lived in Christchurch back then) and asked the local president to check out a 1959 Morris 1000 which I brought. I have brought and sold a few cars and vans since then, some I have regretted selling. After a period of time being involved with the club, I became the Social Convenor then President. I have had the pleasure of hosting visiting Morris Minor enthusiasts and club members from overseas, England, South Africa, and Australia.
I got heavily involved in a project to rebuild a Morris Minor Ute from bare chassis upwards, this is not a standard Morrie it is fitted with a Datsun A15 Motor which has been fully rebuilt with a 5 speed gearbox, gas shocks on the front plus Marina Disc brakes mounted on the front. The colour is a Ford / Mazda Blue and it is to be fitted with a step side deck on the back. The parts I needed were scarce in New Zealand and I had to use my connections and membership in the Morris Minor Owners Club in the UK, to source them.
I began helping out friends and club members who also needed Morris Minor parts, this grew into importing the parts into New Zealand, on a professional basis and when we couldn’t import it, we got the parts we needed engineered and rebuilt here, so Cobs Morri Stuff was born. My aim is to assist other Morris Minor owners and enthusiasts, anywhere in the world, who also need parts to restore and keep running the best vehicles on the road.
I hope you find what you are looking for here, if you don’t drop me an email, letting me know what you need.
Gilbert ‘Cob’ Roberts.
